Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, also known as the Lancer Evo or simply Ages, is the version of the Mitsubishi Lancer corsaiola produced since 1992 by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. It has been produced in ten versions, and the numerical designation is given by a Roman numeral. Model Evolution V was up to the base of the car rally in which Mitsubishi was running in Group A of the WRC. To adapt its regulations, the version prepared by Ralliart rally, was based on the road, although in reality the body was the only thing they have in common.
Originally, the Lancer Evolution had to be sold only for the Japanese domestic market, only later (starting from version V and VI) was exported to foreign markets in Europe, given the number of cars that were imported from these markets. With the Evo VIII, the market for the Lancer is expanded also in the U.S., where a short time before had come to rival the Impreza WRX STi.
The Lancer Evolution was definitely competitive in the World Rally, as to win 1 Constructors' title (1998) and 4 drivers licenses (1996-1999) thanks to the dexterity at the wheel of Tommi Mäkinen. Subsequently have been replaced by the WRC prototype WRC04 and WRC05, but without significant success. However, Lancer still compete in Group N national championships and international competitions.
