Despite a few cosmetic changes (grille, bumpers, wheels) and internal (center console, seats, door panels) compared to the X300, the X308, launched in 1998, contained significant technical innovations.
The old 6 and 12 cylinder engines were replaced with new V8. Novel architecture in House Jaguar. Underlying the new range is placed the XJ8 3.2 (3249cc, 230CV), while the top was the Supercharged 4.0 with 2 compressors volume (3996cc, 370CV). In the middle stood the aspirated 4.0 (3996cc, 281cv).
As usual composition were standard (only for 3.2), sport (all) and Sovereign (4.0 and 4.0 Supercharged), the latter under the LWB version.
